Choosing Crepe Maker Machines

Crepes are a favorite among French food dishes. They resemble a very thin pancake, and the main ingredient is wheat flour. They originated in the Britanny area, in the northwestern part of France, but are very popular in America and elsewhere. The best thing about them is the way they can be filled with many different types of fillings, which makes them a base for dozens of delicious meals. An example of a typical filling combination is strawberry sauce and whipped cream. A fancier variation is used in crepes suzette, in which a sauce made of grated orange peel, caramelized sugar, orange juice and Grand Marnier liqueur is poured on top of a crepe, which is them flambéed.

It is not too hard to make crepes from scratch. You mix eggs, flour, salt and butter to make a batter, which you then fry in butter in a small frying pan. It takes some practice to have the crepes come out evenly. If you are not confident of your cooking ability, or you just want to make the cooking easier, there are two types of crepe makers you can use.

One type of crepe maker resembles a frying pan with another, upside down one on top of it. With this type, the top part is heated up and then it is dipped into the batter which in the bottom part. This causes a film of batter to stick to it, which is the crepe. Then this top part is flipped over and the crepe is cooked on the top of the stove. You do not need much cooking skill to use these, and they are cheaper than the other type. They can cost as little as $25.

The other type of device for making crepes has its own heat source. It looks like a regular griddle and is placed above a heating element. Batter is spread out on top of the griddle with a wooden tool. You can make larger crepes, but you need more cooking skill. These are more commonly used in restaurants. They are known as skillet style makers and they are more expensive. They can cost as much as $200.

Selecting a crepe maker that is right for you should involve doing some research online. Do a search using the phrase "crepe makers" and be sure to look at many websites before deciding anything. Read expert and consumer reviews, and look for video demonstrations of these devices in action. If you look at enough websites, you will surely be able to find a type and model that is perfect for your needs.
